Clay knocks off Waite; Central blanks Start

Josh Utter tossed two touchdown passes and Kyle Steveson ran for two as Clay cruised to a 38-10 victory Friday night at Waite.

Utter threw for 148 yards and hooked up for scores with Nick Roman of 30 yards and Bobby Hoffman of 21. Roman scored the game's final TD on a 35-yard interception return in the fourth quarter. Eagles kicker Jimmy Dunsmore made a 37-yard field goal.

The Eagles are 3-1, 1-0 in the City League.

Steveson ran for TDs of 30 and two yards and finished with 20 carries for 113 yards.

Waite's TD came in the third quarter on a 50-yard interception return by Phillip Hatch. The Indians are 0-4.

The Irish dominated on both sides of the ball to advance to 3-1 with the home victory.

Central Catholic senior quarterback David Walender completed 9 of 18 passes for 131 yards and two touchdowns - both 15-yarders - one to Josh Stump and the other to Gerren Duhart.

Calebb Goings rushed for one score and Jamaal Terrance recovered a fumble in the end zone for another. Kyle Burkhardt booted two field goals for the Irish, one for 52 yards and another for 45.

Start (0-4) was limited to just 124 yards of total offense.

Sophomore D.J. Horton ran 53 yards for the first score of the game in the first quarter and later scored on a 55-yard pass interception return in the second quarter for Libbey.

Quarterback Mark Claypool and the rest of the Cowboys didn't miss a beat on offense as Claypool was 8-of-13 passing for 145 yards and three touchdowns. Horton had 89 yards in 7 carries. Collina Feemster, Moe Allison, and Jack Deluca added Libbey touchdowns on the ground. Deon Mitchell, Kris Pinkney, and Serrett Bradley all scored on passes from Claypool.

Libbey is 1-2, 1-0. Woodward is 0-3, 0-1.

Brian Shelton ran for two touchdowns and threw for another for the Rebels (1-3, 1-0).

Shelton scored on a 1-yard run and a 9-yard run and connected with Antoine Russell on a 30-yard scoring pass.

Russell also scored on a 75-yard kickoff return, Eric Daniels returned a fumble 50 yards for a touchdown, and Juan Harris scored on a 1-yard run for Bowsher.

Brendon Ryles scored the only touchdown for the visiting Bulldogs (0-4, 0-1) on a 5-yard run in the fourth quarter.
