Support was shown for Toledo's mayoral candidates at several events over the weekend.

A group of Democrats, including former Toledo City Council President Mark Sobczak, gathered yesterday to pledge their support for Mike Bell, who is a registered Democrat but running as an independent, at his downtown campaign headquarters, 1114 Washington St.

In response, Lucas County Democratic Party Chairman Ron Rothenbuhler released this statement: “Keith Wilkowski is the only Democrat running for mayor and the only candidate with a plan to create jobs and strengthen Toledo's middle class.”

On Saturday, Mr. Wilkowski was endorsed by U.S. Rep. Marcy Kaptur (D., Toledo), who was a special guest at a Polish dinner for the mayoral candidate at St. Hedwig Church, 2916 Lagrange St.

Also on Saturday, a group of Latino community members announced their support for Mr. Bell at a “Latinos Unidos for Mike Bell” event at Sofia Quintero Arts & Cultural Center, 1225 Broadway St.
