With one week remaining before the filing deadline, two Republicans have signaled their interest in running for the seat on the Lucas County Board of Commissioners now held by Democrat Ben Konop.

George Sarantou, 58, a Toledo city councilman, took out petitions from the Lucas County Board of Elections Wednesday. Andy Glenn, 40, a Springfield Township trustee, pulled petitions on Tuesday.

The deadline to file the completed petitions with at least 50 signatures is Feb. 18 to appear on the May 4 primary ballot. The winner of the Republican primary will face the Democratic primary winner.

Mr. Konop took out petitions for re-election in December, but has not filed petitions. No other Democrat has signed out petition forms.

Mr. Sarantou lost to Mr. Konop in the commissioner race four years ago.
