5/5/2010

Visiting Judge Stephen Yarbrough was the winner yesterday in a three-way race to pick the Republican candidate for the Ohio 6th District Court of Appeals in the November election.

Judge Yarbrough challenged Toledo Municipal Court Judge Robert Christiansen and Ottawa County Municipal Court Judge Fritz Hany. Judge Yarbrough will face Democrat Keila Cosme, who was appointed to the seat upon the death of Judge William Skow.

Judge Yarbrough, 63, of Sylvania was a Toledo City Councilman in the late 1980s. He was elected to the Lucas County Domestic Relations Court in 1989 and the Common Pleas Court in 1993.

Judge Christiansen, 62, of Toledo, was elected to Toledo Municipal Court in 2005. He also was a Lucas County Common Pleas Court judge for 22 years before stepping down in 2004.

Judge Hany, 50, of Oak Harbor, has been the sole judge on the Ottawa County Municipal Court since his appointment in 1991.
