Lucas County GOP makes thousands of calls in bid to win support

Lucas County Republicans made several thousand calls in support of the party's candidates during a "super Saturday phone-a-thon," Lucas County Chairman Jon Stainbrook said.

Last week alone, the Lucas County GOP's phone bank was No. 1 three times statewide in the number of phone calls made, the local party chairman said.

Those calling voters Saturday from Lucas County party headquarters, 10 South Superior St., included George Sarantou, the party's candidate for Lucas County commissioner, and Gina-Marie Kaczala, GOP candidate for county auditor.

Other volunteers included members of the University of Toledo College Republicans and the county party's Central Committee, Mr. Stainbrook said.

When voters answers the phone, volunteers identified themselves as calling on behalf of the Ohio Republican Party and asked voters to support gubernatorial candidate John Kasich, U.S. Senate candidate Rob Portman, and others on the GOP ticket.

Party headquarters will be open from 9 a.m. to 9 p.m. weekdays and 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Saturdays for those who would like to volunteer or to pick up a sign, Mr. Stainbrook said.
