YOUNGSTOWN, Ohio — Vice President Joe Biden is appealing to Ohio voters to re-elect Gov. Ted Strickland, saying the Obama administration needs allies like Strickland.

Biden and Strickland shook hands Monday with several dozen diners at a restaurant in Youngstown, a Democratic stronghold where the jobless rate is 13 percent.

They also campaigned at a Youngstown-area manufacturing plant, where Biden said he understands that people are angry about the economy. Biden says he believes the economy is moving in the right direction and would be harmed by Republican leadership.

A month before Election Day, Strickland is in a battle with Republican John Kasich (KAY'-sihk), a former congressman.
