Iott spent $1.5 million so far in congressional race

Rich Iott, the Republican candidate for Congress, has spent $1.5 million so far in his bid to upset incumbent U.S. Rep. Marcy Kaptur (D., Toledo), according to records filed with the Federal Election Commission.

The third-quarter report is required of all candidates and covers contributions and expenditures as of Sept. 30.

The Monclova Township business investor loaned his campaign $1,378,100, according to the report. He also received $183,389 in contributions from other individuals and committees.

Mr. Iott's receipts include $5,000 from the Freedom Project, a political action committee headed by U.S. Rep. John Boehner of Ohio, the House Republican leader.

The revelation last week that Mr. Iott engaged in historical re-enactments wearing a Nazi uniform has drawn a denunciation from the House minority whip, Rep. Eric Cantor. But Don Seymour, a spokesman for Mr. Boehner, said Mr. Boehner would not ask for his contribution to be returned.

Miss Kaptur's quarterly report, for the period July 1 through Sept. 30, has not yet appeared on the FEC's Web site.

Her last report showed she had $1,044,931 cash on hand as of June 30.
