Kaptur backed by Lucas Democratic Party panel
2/17/2012The executive committee of the Lucas County Democratic Party unanimously endorsed U.S. Rep. Marcy Kaptur (D., Toledo) in the March 6 Democratic primary.
The vote Thursday followed a brief discussion, party Chairman Ron Rothenbuhler said. About 80 of the 200 people on the executive committee attended.
The contest pits Miss Kaptur against another incumbent, U.S. Rep. Dennis Kucinich (D., Cleveland), and challenger Graham Veysey for the 9th District seat.
The party’s screening committee interviewed Miss Kaptur and Mr. Kucinich. But the recommendation to endorse Miss Kaptur came from the executive committee itself. Mr. Veysey did not respond to inquiries from the county party, Mr. Rothenbuhler said.
