Vice President Joe Biden will be in Toledo Thursday morning to meet with UAW members, according to an Obama-campaign official in Ohio.

The campaign event at United Auto Workers Local 12, 2300 Ashland Ave, will be the vice president’s first in a series of events over the next few weeks to begin framing the “core issues of the general election – mainly the competing visions and contrasting philosophies for growing the economy and strengthening the middle class,” the official said in an email to The Blade.

Mr. Biden’s speech will highlight the president’s steps to create jobs across the country, the source said.

“Thursday’s speech will also highlight the President’s decision, in the face of stiff opposition, to rescue the auto industry and save 1.4 million American jobs, and Mitt Romney’s position that we should have let Detroit go bankrupt,” the official said.

The vice president was in Toledo more than once in 2010. He marched in the Labor Day parade that year with then-governor Ted Strickland and also made an appearance on Aug. 23 to tour the Chrysler Jeep Wrangler assembly plant in North Toledo. There he conversed and rubbed shoulders with several hundred members of the United Auto Workers union.
