Obama coming to Toledo on Labor Day

President Obama will spend Labor Day in the Toledo and Cleveland areas, a campaign official confirmed today.

Details on which events he plans to attend have not been finalized, but Mr. Obama is expected to visit with the International Brotherhood of Electrical Workers Local 8 in Rossford after the Labor Day parade ends.

The stops in battleground Ohio will come just days before the President accepts the party’s nomination for a second term at the Democratic National Convention. Most Toledo area delegates will be Charlotte, N.C. when Mr. Obama is in their home state.

Lucas County Democratic Chairman Ron Rothenbuhler, as well as other Democratic officials, said they were informed of the president’s Labor Day visit.

Ohio has been seemingly been the favorite spot for Mr. Obama and Vice President Joe Biden to spend their Labor Days. Mr. Obama spoke at a labor picnic in Cincinnati on Labor Day of 2009. Mr. Biden marched in the Labor Day Parade in Toledo in 2010, and he was back in Cincinnati last year to deliver a Labor Day speech to the same labor crowd Mr. Obama talked to two years earlier.

The president toured northern Ohio on July 5 — including a stump speech before several hundred people sitting on the lawn of the Wolcott House Museum complex in Maumee.

That day started at 11 a.m., when he bounded off Air Force One at Toledo Express Airport

As part of the “Betting On America Bus Tour,” Mr. Obama later that afternoon on told a crowd in Sandusky that he would represent the “big, diverse, hopeful, optimistic, hard-working, patriotic middle class,” and that Mitt Romney would represent the other side of the “stalemate” in Washington, the side that wants tax cuts for the wealthy and to cut services and programs to pay for them.

Mr. Obama made stops in Oak Harbor, Catawba Island Township, Sandusky, and Amherst, Ohio, and ended his day in Parma, a Cleveland suburb.
