The Lucas County Board of Elections today started the process of an automatic recount to make sure that Imagination Station won its levy fair and square.

The recount is required by law because the Toledo science museum levy won passage by less than one-half of 1 percent of the total vote.

The levy was behind in the unofficial vote count on Election Night by 1,075 votes, but the addition of more than 9,000 provisional, absentee, and remade paper ballots pushed the 0.17-mill levy request into the passed category by 306 votes.

The elections board selected precincts at random in Oregon, Toledo, Sylvania Township, and Maumee to recount a total of 10,362 votes. The recount will take place on Dec. 6.
