Wood Co. GOP fills commissioner post

1/11/2013

BOWLING GREEN — Wood County Republicans on Thursday chose Doris Herringshaw to fill the county commissioner seat vacated by Tim Brown.

The GOP’s 60-member central committee chose Ms. Herringshaw, 63, of Liberty Township over six other Republicans who sought the position. Mr. Brown, who was elected in November to Ohio’s 3rd House District seat, was serving his fourth term as a county commissioner.

Ms. Herringshaw retired in 2011 from the Ohio State University Extension Service. In March, she won a five-way GOP primary for commissioner, but was defeated in November by Democrat Joel Kuhlman, who had been appointed earlier in the year by his party to replace retired Commissioner Alvie Perkins.

Ms. Herringshaw will have to run to retain the seat in the November, 2014, election, when Mr. Brown’s term would have ended.
