Toledo City Council has approved the creation of the seven-member commission that reviews salaries for the mayor and council every four years.

The Salary Review and Recommendation Commission, which was first started in 2000 when voters approved amending the Toledo City Charter, will review the salaries and make recommendations for changes to council by April 1.

The committee is made up of one Toledo resident from the Toledo Regional Chamber of Commerce, the Greater Northwest Ohio AFL-CIO, the League of Women Voters, the NAACP, the Hispanic Chamber of Commerce, the Lucas County Republican Party, and the Lucas County Democratic Party.

Council also voted 11-0 Tuesday to deny a special-use permit for a tobacco shop at 2208 W. Alexis Rd. Councilman Lindsay Webb said the firm was not compatible with others nearby. Councilman Adam Martinez was not present.
