Voters in northwest Ohio and southeast Michigan will go to the polls today to decide a slate of issues dominated by tax levies, including a tax for local public transit in Perrysburg.

Polls in Ohio in areas holding special elections are open from 6:30 a.m. to 7:30 p.m., while Michigan voting hours will be 7 a.m. to 8 p.m.

The Perrysburg transit tax proposal is 0.8 mills for five years. After voting early last year to withdraw from the Toledo Area Regional Transit Authority, Perrysburg voters last fall rejected a 1.45-mill tax to support a local transit service.

Perrysburg also will hold a primary election to choose a Republican candidate for municipal-court judge in the Nov. 5 general election.

Elsewhere in northwest Ohio, some area school districts will have levy requests, including a 6.75-mill continuing tax levy sought by Bowling Green Schools, while Swanton Schools is seeking a 3.9-mill bond issue for a building project and a 0.5-mill continuing maintenance levy. Oregon schools is asking voters to renew a five-year, 2-mill property tax.

School levy renewals account for most of the elections in southeast Michigan, along with a library tax in Tecumseh and a road tax in Monroe County’s Ash Township.
