FINDLAY - A Findlay councilman Wednesday resigned his seat representing the city’s third ward.

K.C. Collette submitted his resignation effective immediately, said council president Jim Slough.

Hancock County Republican Party Chairman Jim Baker said central committee members will appoint someone as his replacement.

Mr. Collette did not specify a reason for his departure in his resignation letter, said Mr. Slough, who said the former councilman was involved in an alleged shoplifting incident last weekend. Findlay police officials did not return calls, and charges have not been filed by a prosecutor, according to the Findlay Municipal Court.

Mr. Collette could not be reached for comment Wednesday.

“I’m sorry to see him leave. He was a good councilman, and I think everybody was very surprised at all the events that transpired,” Mr. Slough said.

Mr. Collette last year was asked to resign his position as an assistant Hancock County prosecutor after authorities said he was twice convicted of soliciting a prostitute in the 1990s in Florida but failed to disclose the misdemeanor convictions when he was hired by the office in 1996.
