Challenger files in court clerk race

Toledo voters may have a contested race for municipal clerk of courts this year for the first time since 2003.

Republican Constantine Stamos, an unsuccessful candidate for Lucas County Clerk of Courts last year and for Toledo City Council four years ago, filed petitions for the seat Wednesday with the Lucas County Board of Elections.

Incumbent Vallie Bowman-English, who was elected in a special election in 2003 and re-elected without opposition in 2007, filed previously and was certified to the ballot by the board of elections last Thursday. She is a Democrat. The term is six years.

Wednesday was the deadline to file petitions for the city clerk’s job, as well as for mayor and city councilman in Oregon and city councilman in Maumee.

Filing for four openings on Maumee council were incumbents Brent Buehrer, Julie Rubini, Michael Coyle, and Timothy Pauken, and challengers Danny Cobb, John Schafer, Hal Simon, Thomas Wagener, Jr., and Maria Zapiecki.

Candidates for seven seats on Oregon city council are incumbents Sandy Bihn, Gerald Peach, Terrance Reeves, James Seaman, Michael Sheehy, and Dennis Walendzak, and challengers Marvin Dabish, Kathleen Pollauf, and Timothy Zale. Ms. Pollauf, Mr. Walendzak, and Mr. Zale have been certified.

Filing for the post of Oregon mayor are incumbent Mayor Michael Seferian and Councilman Thomas Susor.

Candidates’ petitions must be certified by the elections board to appear on the ballot.
