Toledo Councilman D. Michael Collins, the political independent challenger for mayor, released his tax returns and credit reports today.

"The next mayor will become CEO for the city of Toledo and will be in charge of nearly a half-billion dollar budget," Mr. Collins said during a morning news conference at his campaign offices in South Toledo.

"Transparency on how mayoral candidates handle their personal finances is key for the citizens of Toledo in making their decision on who is best qualified to lead the city of Toledo," he said.

The credit report shows a 916 score -- considered excellent. Mr. Collins said he has no credit card debit, no home mortgage, and no vehicle loan.

His 2012 joint tax returns shows several sources of income -- the bulk of which came from his retirement benefits after nearly three decades as a Toledo police officer.

His 2012 income included $41,364 from his pension and $23,797 from Toledo City Council.

Mr. Collins and his wife, Sandra Drabik, made a combined $205,244 last year. That also includes Ms. Drabik's retirement benefits.

Mayor Mike Bell, also a political independent, released financial documents to the public when he first ran for office four years ago.

Also challenging the mayor is Councilman Joe McNamara and Lucas County Auditor Anita Lopez.
