Elections board certifies several to run in 2013
7/3/2013The Lucas County Board of Elections on Tuesday certified Toledo Municipal Judge Michael Goulding to the ballot to run for re-election this year.
Judge Goulding, a Republican, filed to run for another six-year term even though he is a candidate for appointment to a vacancy in Lucas County Common Pleas Court. Gov. John Kasich will make the appointment. Mr. Goulding was appointed to municipal court in 2007 and subsequently won election to his own six-year term.
Toledo lawyer Gretchen DeBacker, a Democrat, has also filed and been certified to run for the judgeship.
Also certified to the ballot Tuesday were Charles Larkins to run for Waterville City Council, Clyde Hall for Harbor View Village Council, and former Lucas County Sheriff James Telb for an unexpired term on the Educational Services of Lake Erie West Governing Board.
Micheline Krise, a candidate for Waterville City Council, was not certified to the ballot because of a defect in her candidate petition after the Lucas County Prosecutor's Office determined that a wrong date on Ms. Krise's petition was a fatal flaw. However, a revised opinion from the prosecutor's office later in the day said that Ms. Krise could not be kept off the ballot because of a clerical mistake. Board Director Meghan Gallagher said the board will vote again on Ms. Krise's ballot when it meets July 18.
In other action, the board set the hours and location for early voting center for the Sept. 10 primary election. Early voting will be conducted from 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. on Mondays, Wednesdays, Thursdays, and Fridays, Aug. 7 through Sept. 5, except for Monday, Sept. 2, when the Board of Elections office is closed for Labor Day. Early voting will extend from 8:30 a.m. until 6:30 p.m. on Tuesdays starting Aug. 6, and to 6 p.m. on Friday, Sept. 6, the last day of early voting until Election Day on Sept. 10.
The location will be the former YMCA Summit Plaza, 1500 N. Superior St., the same location used in the 2012 presidential election.
