Businessman files as write-in for auditor

James Martin, an unsuccessful candidate for Toledo City Council last year, on Monday filed as a write-in candidate for the Republican nomination for Lucas County auditor in the May 6 primary.

Mr. Martin, 27, of 410 West Alexis Rd., a consultant on business start-ups and Web development, said he was filing to preserve a GOP presence in the auditor’s race because of the uncertainty about the candidacy of John Navarre. Mr. Navarre filed for the GOP nomination but learned that, as a classified state employee, he may be prohibited from running.

His boss, incumbent Auditor Anita Lopez, filed for the Democratic nomination for re-election.
