Sylvania officials are reviewing a rezoning request for about an acre of property on Alexis Road.

The petition, submitted by Jerry Parker, a lawyer for Gressley, Kaplin & Parker of Toledo, for DJF Properties requests that property at 5904 Alexis Rd. and 5623 and 5625 Acres Rd. be rezoned as business from its residential designation.

Three houses sit on the two parcels which total nearly an acre.

Doug Haynam, chairman of the Zoning and Annexation Committee, called the application “interesting” because the request's purpose states “consistent with master plan," referring to the city's master plan for that area.

The properties are located within a vibrant commercial corridor along Alexis.

The request was referred to the Planning Commission and will be reviewed at 5:30 p.m. May 14. Mayor Craig Stough, a member of the Planning Commission, said although a zoning change does not require a specific plan or business, the city’s policy is to inquire about the future use.

Mr. Parker was contacted by phone and said he could not provide further details about the request without the consent of his client.
