The Maumee city employee who resigned from his job Monday after being charged with theft in office also has resigned from his position on the Maumee Board of Education.

David Theaker, 53, a former supervisor in the service division, was charged with two fifth-degree felonies in Maumee Municipal Court on July 24 — theft in office by a public official, and theft of property owned by the municipal corporation.

He is accused of charging gasoline to the city, which he then took home for personal use. He resigned from the city Monday and the Maumee Board of Education accepted his resignation Tuesday.

Mr. Theaker will next appear in Maumee Municipal Court on Aug. 4 for an arraignment.
