Indians October success good for city
10/24/2007CLEVELAND Baseball was very good to Cleveland s finances this October.
The city expects to receive about $1.5 million from admission and parking taxes from the Cleveland Indians five sold-out, postseason games at Jacobs Field.
Our spirits were lifted, but also our bottom line, said Martin J. Sweeney, Cleveland City Council president.
Cleveland keeps 8 percent of the price of each game ticket sold. It also collects an 8 percent parking tax from all lots in the city.
Cleveland finance director Sharon Dumas said that each of the Indians three home games against Boston in the American League championship series brought in $284,000 in admission taxes for a total of $852,000. There were also two fi rst-round home games with the New York Yankees.
