Blues' Legace stymies Red Wings

DETROIT - Manny Legace made 31 saves for his 20th career shutout to lift the St. Louis Blues to a 2-0 win over the NHL-leading Detroit Red Wings last night.

It was the first time Detroit, winners of 14 of its last 16 games, was held scoreless this season.

Erik Johnson and Lee Stempniak scored for the Blues, who snapped a four-game losing streak.

Legace, who played with the Red Wings from 1999-2000 until 2005-06, stopped Jiri Hudler on a breakaway with 8:05 left.

Dominik Hasek made 22 saves for the Red Wings.

Johnson opened the scoring 5:41 into the third period when he beat a screened Hasek with a slap shot from the high slot after picking up a loose puck and skating from inside the right circle. It was Johnson's third goal of the season.

Stempniak scored into an empty net with 21 seconds left.

NOTES: Detroit C Henrik Zetterberg didn't play because of back spasms and RW Tomas Holmstrom missed the game with a knee injury.

Blue Jackets 4, Oilers 2

COLUMBUS - Rick Nash scored three times to break out of a slump and Columbus beat Edmonton.

Jiri Novotny had a goal and Nikolai Zherdev two assists for the Blue Jackets, who have won three straight at home.

Edmonton's Ethan Moreau had his first goal in his second game back from a shoulder injury suffered last October.

Nash, who hadn't scored a goal in eight games dating to a two-goal performance on Dec. 5, was on the right side of the net when defenseman Duvie Westcott's shot dribbled his way.

Nash went to his backhand and slid the puck past goalie Dwayne Roloson with 3:21 left in the game for his 20th goal of the season.
