Trail Blazers send Heat to 12th straight defeat
1/19/2008MIAMI - Dwyane Wade scored 37 points, and that still wasn't enough for the hapless Miami Heat.
Brandon Roy led a fourth-quarter comeback last night, and the Portland Trail Blazers won 98-91 to extend the Heat's losing streak to 12 games, which matches the third-longest in franchise history.
Roy finished with 24 points to help the Trail Blazers win for the ninth time after trailing at the start of the fourth quarter.
Wade tied his own franchise record by scoring 17 consecutive Heat points, and he set a team record for points in a third quarter with 20 to help Miami take a 76-69 lead to start the fourth quarter. But Wade scored only two points in the final period.
Celtics 116, 76ers 89
BOSTON - Paul Pierce scored 14 of his 22 points in the third quarter to help Boston take the lead, and Ray Allen scored 10 of his 23 in the fourth when the Celtics pulled away.
Kevin Garnett had 11 points, eight assists, and six rebounds in Boston's second consecutive victory since its only losing streak of the season: a two-game skid - and three losses in four games - that has been the only blip for the best team in the league.
Andre Iguodala had 17 points, and Samuel Dalembert had 12 points and 10 rebounds for the 76ers.
Hornets 112, Bobcats 84
NEW ORLEANS - David West scored 28 points in 32 minutes, and New Orleans won its fourth straight game.
Peja Stojakovic hit five 3-pointers and finished with 17 points for New Orleans, which shot 60 percent in winning for the 12th time in its last 14 games to keep pace with the leaders in the Western Conference.
Chris Paul and Tyson Chandler both had double-doubles, marking the 13th time they've done so in the same game this season. The Hornets have won all of those games.
Paul finished with 14 points and 13 assists, and Chandler had 13 points and 10 rebounds.
Emeka Okafor led Charlotte with 13 points.
Raptors 89, Hawks 78
TORONTO - Chris Bosh had 35 points and nine rebounds, Anthony Parker scored 18 points, and Toronto won for the sixth time in seven games.
Bosh, who had 13 points in the fourth quarter, has scored at least 30 in four of Toronto's past five games.
Joe Johnson had 25 points for the Hawks, who lost back-to-back games for the first time since a four-game slide between Dec. 29 and Jan. 5.
Wizards 111, Knicks 98
WASHINGTON - Antawn Jamison scored 32 points, Caron Butler added 22 while stretching his made free-throw streak to an NBA season-high 54 straight, and Washington snapped New York's three-game winning streak.
The Knicks haven't won four straight since January, 2006.
Washington has won four of its past five games to improve to 21-17, despite playing without injured all-star Gilbert Arenas since November.
Quentin Richardson led New York with a season-high 21 points, but he only scored two in the second half. Jamal Crawford had 19.
Grizzlies 124, Sonics 100
MEMPHIS - Pau Gasol had 24 points and 12 rebounds, Mike Miller added 25 points, and Memphis sent Seattle to its ninth straight loss.
Seattle had not lost nine straight since early in the 1972-73 season. Memphis snapped a five-game skid.
Gasol had four blocks and connected on 11 of 19 shots as Memphis shot 52 percent on the night.
Kevin Durant led Seattle with 22 points, but hit only eight of 18 shots.
SUNS 115, TIMBERWOLVES 95
PHOENIX - Steve Nash had a near-flawless game, and five Phoenix players scored 17 points or more in the Suns' rout of Minnesota, the Timberwolves' 15th consecutive loss on the road.
Nash was 6-for-6 from the field and 4-for-4 from the free throw line for 17 points with 13 assists. He had one turnover in 28 minutes. Amare Stoudemire scored 23 points, Raja Bell 20, Leandro Barbosa 19, and Shawn Marion 18 for the Suns.
Al Jefferson had 27 points and 14 rebounds for the Timberwolves, who fell to 1-19 on the road.
JAZZ 106, CLIPPERS 88
SALT LAKE CITY - Carlos Boozer had 19 points and 10 rebounds as Utah Jazz crushed Los Angeles.
Deron Williams scored 15 ,and Andrei Kirilenko added 13 points and seven assists for Utah.
Corey Maggette scored 20 and Chris Kaman had 16 points and 16 rebounds for the Clippers.
WARRIORS 119, BULLS 111
CHICAGO- Baron Davis matched a career high with 40 points, hitting six 3-pointers. Stephen Jackson had 12 of his 24 points in the fourth quarter.
Ben Gordon led Chicago with 29 points and Andres Nocioni added 28.
