DETROIT - Dominik Hasek is expected to announce his retirement, a person in the NHL told the AP last night.

The Detroit Red Wings scheduled a news conference for this morning without revealing details.

A person within the league, who requested anonymity because the announcement was Hasek's to make, said Hasek was expected to end his award-winning career.

Hasek won six Vezina Trophies as the NHL's top goaltender and two Hart Trophies.

EAST RUTHERFORD, N.J. - Goalkeeper Tim Howard and the United States appear ready for World Cup qualifying.

Howard had four spectacular point-blank saves on Julio Cruz, Landon Donovan made his 100th international appearance and the United States tied top-ranked Argentina 0-0 last night.

The match, which ended in driving rain, drew 78,682, the fourth-largest crowd to watch a soccer game at Giants Stadium and the ninth-biggest to see the U.S. national team at home.
