DETROIT - Tigers designated hitter Gary Sheffield was activated from the disabled list and will bat seventh in Tuesday's game against the St. Louis Cardinals.

To make room for Sheffield in Detroit, the Tigers optioned Jeff Larish back to Toledo.

Sheffield's DL stay traces back to May 27. He was out with a left oblique strain, and returns with a .213 batting average, three homers, and 12 RBIs.

Larish, 25, batted .200 with a homer and seven RBIs in 15 games for the Tigers - his first stint as a major leaguer. He'll return to Toledo, where he's belted 16 homers for the Mud Hens this year.

Larish said he will rejoin the Hens Wednesday in Syracuse.
