The Northwest Ohio Knights, a local semipro football team, is holding an intrasquad scrimmage on Saturday at the Lucas County Recreation Center beginning at 2 p.m.
There is a $2 admission charge which includes a hotdog and pop.
The team consists primarily of former high school standouts from the area.
We have a quality team this season, said Dave Calabrese, coach and co-owner of the team. We are a bit deeper.
The festivities also include a Meet the Knights session, a 50-50 raffle, and games and prizes. Fans also will have a chance to win tickets and Knights merchandise.
It s a very family-oriented atmosphere, Calabrese said.
Northwest Ohio posted a 10-2 record last season and won the Great Lakes Football League championship. The team has joined the United States Football Alliance this season. The USFA is a 34-team league based in the Midwest.
It s a big step up [in competition], Calabrese said. But we should be quite a bit better.
The Knights have their first preseason game on May 9 against the Michigan Demons at 7:30 p.m. at Central Catholic High School. It will include a fund-raiser for the Muscular DystrophyAssociation of Northwest Ohio and research on ALS, or Lou Gehrig s disease.
