Burkett Night at Fremont Speedway

7/2/2009

FREMONT Fremont Speedway will hold the Burkett Family Night of racing Saturday, honoring the memory of Alex Burkett, a prominent local racing figure who died about a year ago after a battle with pancreatic cancer. Gates open at 4 p.m., with racing in the 410 Sprints, 310 Sprints and Dirt Trucks classes starting at 7 p.m.

On Sunday, a Racers Racing For The Cure fundraiser will take place with a chicken barbeque, reverse raffle, a charity auction and a blood drive.

Burkett was a racing enthusiast who in 1965 drove a Ford Galaxie 500 convertible pace car at Fremont Speedway, then bought the car from a local dealer when the season ended. The car remained in his family and will be used Saturday to pace the feature race.
