Dominiak, Collette to meet for city title

In the semifinals of the city of Toledo Tennis Championship, Todd Dominiak defeated Leo Sarria 6-2, 7-5 to set up a finals match with Kyle Collette who beat Tomas Menec 5-7, 7-6, 7-5.

In the women's semifinals Zorana George was victorious over Drew Fillis 6-2, 6-2 and Morgan Delp beat Tara Majdalani 4-6, 7-6, 6-3.

In the men's consolation match, Jeff Brown beat Ryan Gabel 6-1, 6-2.

The women's final will be Saturday at 1 p.m. while the men's will be at 3.

The Northwest Ohio Knights semipro football team can secure a playoff berth today.

The Knights are 7-2 overall, 6-2 in the United States Football Alliance.

They host the Grand Rapids Thunder (7-3, 5-3) at 3 p.m. at Central Catholic High School.

"If we win we will be the top-seeded wild card team," coach Dave Calabrese said. "But if we lose we could be out."

Northwest Ohio opened its season with a five-game winning streak. Both

losses came to the Lima Warriors. The Knights are in second place in the Central Division of the Western Conference. They have outscored their opponents 377-210.

Corey Minnfield, a former Woodward High School and Ohio Northern University quarterback, led the Knights to a title last year. His main targets this season have been LaDon Coleman (Rogers) and John Jackson (Scott).

The team's leading tacklers are middle linebacker Sam Onubogu (Start) and defensive end Brandon Simmons (Springfield).

Tickets are $6 for adults and $3 for children ages 5-12.
