CLEVELAND — Mitch Talbot pitched seven strong innings to close his rookie year with a win as the Cleveland Indians beat the Detroit Tigers 4-0 in the first game of a doubleheader Wednesday.
Travis Hafner hit a two-run homer off Max Scherzer (12-10) in the third inning. Shin-Soo Choo added a two-run shot in the fifth.
Talbot (10-13) gave up five hits and struck out five without a walk. He earned only his third win in 13 starts since beating Cincinnati in an interleague game on June 27.
