Red Wings clip Jackets

DETROIT — Johan Franzen scored 45 seconds into overtime to give the Detroit Red Wings a 6-5 win over the Columbus Blue Jackets in a seesaw game Saturday night.

Drew Miller had a goal and two assists, and Jonathan Ericsson and Kris Draper each added a goal and an assist for Detroit. Valtteri Filppula and Brian Rafalski also scored, and Darren Helm had two assists. Joey MacDonald made 24 saves.

Rick Nash had a goal and two assists and Derick Brassard and Grant Clitsome a goal and an assist each for Columbus. Matt Calvert and R.J. Umberger also scored, and Steve Mason stopped 28 shots.

Franzen beat Mason with a shot from the high inside edge of the right circle for his 19th goal.

Nash sent the contest into overtime with 1:04 left and Mason pulled for the extra attacker.

Nash's screened wrist shot from the high slot beat MacDonald for his 21st goal.

Draper put Detroit ahead 5-4 3:32 into the third when he swatted in a rebound with one hand for his fourth goal.

Umberger's power-play goal tied it at 4 1:10 into the second period. He put in a rebound for his 15th.

Rafalski scored 8:02 into the second period to give the Red Wings a 4-3 lead with his fourth goal. Ericsson tied the score at 3, 3:57 into the middle period with his third.

Calvert's second goal gave Columbus a 3-2 lead 2:57 into the second.

Detroit tied the game at 2 with two goals in the final three minutes of the first period.

Filppula put the Red Wings on the board with 2:26 left in the opening period with his 11th goal. Miller's third goal tied it with 39 seconds left in the period.

Brassard's 10th goal opened the scoring just 33 seconds into the game. Clitsome made it 2-0 4:12 into the first period.

NOTES: Detroit F Tomas Holmstrom (broken right hand) and G Jimmy Howard (bruised right knee) were injured in Friday's 3-2 shootout loss to the Blue Jackets. Holmstrom, who won't need surgery, is expected to miss three to four weeks, and Howard a few days.
