DETROIT — The Lions have signed guard Leonard Davis and are bringing back running back Kevin Smith.

The team announced the one-year deals Monday. Detroit released running back Eldra Buckley and cornerback Anthony Madison.

The 33-year-old Davis has started all 155 games he’s played in during his career, but he was cut by Dallas before this season, part of a handful of moves that saved the Cowboys room under the salary cap.

Detroit drafted Smith in the third round in 2008, and he ran for nearly 1,000 yards and caught 39 passes as a rookie. The Lions let him go this past offseason, but running back Jahvid Best has had concussion problems, and Smith will get another chance.
