WASHINGTON -- The Washington Redskins will designate tight end Fred Davis as their franchise player, a person with knowledge of the situation confirmed on Friday to the Washington Times.
Davis, a Rogers graduate who played at the University of Southern California, was suspended without pay for four games by the NFL in 2011 after failing multiple drug tests.
Davis, a second round draft choice in 2008, the 48th player selected, finished the 2009 season with 48 receptions for 509 yards and 6 touchdowns following an injury to Redskins starting tight-end Chris Cooley.
He has 131 receptions for 1,648 yards and 12 touchdowns in his career.
