SYRACUSE, N.Y. — Brandon Snyder hit a run-scoring single in the first inning to give the Syracuse Chiefs a 1-0 win Thursday against the Toledo Mud Hens in the first game of a doubleheader in an International League game.

The second game was rained out.

Rafael Bautista, who scored the run in the first, led off the inning with a single, advanced to second on a walk by Brian Goodwin, and went to third on a double play.

The Mud Hens lost despite a strong effort from pitchers Chad Bell and Joe Jimenez.

Bell started for Toledo, and took his second loss of the season after going five innings, allowing one run while striking out four.

Jimenez retired the Chiefs on three consecutive strikeouts in the eighth, but Austin Adams closed the door on their comeback attempt. Adams got Jim Adduci to fly out with a runner on first to end the game for his first save of the season.

Dustin Antolin (2-1) got the win with two innings of scoreless, two-hit relief.

Michael Almanzar reached base three times for the Mud Hens. Toledo was held scoreless for the first time this season, while the Syracuse pitching staff also registered its first shutout of the year.

Former Detroit Tigers first-round pick Jacob Turner started for Syracuse and lasted just 1⅔ innings before being removed. He allowed one hit, no runs, and had two strikeouts.

The Mud Hens had a rally in the top of the second as after a two-out single by Efren Navarro, and Turner was removed for Antolin. After a single by Almanzar and a walk by David Lough to load the bases, Antolin was able to induce a groundout.
