State of Ohio offers help on loan shopping

7/13/2003

Prospective home buyers overwhelmed by mortgage shopping can use a new worksheet available from the Ohio Department of Commerce's Office of Consumer Affairs.

The two-sided Mortgage Shopping Worksheet asks specific questions so prospective borrowers can compare similar costs associated with a mortgage from different lenders. Items include length of the loan, interest rate, points, fees, and closing or settlement costs.

It is available from the department's Web site at www.com.state.oh.us, where users can click on the Borrow Smart box. It can also be obtained by calling the agency toll free at 1-866-278-0003.
