Welcome Home

4/8/2004

Located on the beautiful downtown Toledo riverfront at the corner of Summit and Adams streets, COSI Toledo is a great place for children of all ages to get lost for a day. Visitors can spend hours exploring the Center of Science and Industry, one of Toledo s nationally recognized museums.

The hot summer days ahead mean cool science at COSI Toledo. From beginning to end, this summer will be packed with exciting activities and special events designed to entertain, fascinate, challenge and inspire visitors.

Sandsational Science Spring Break 2004 kicked off the fun-filled summer on April 3. Through April 18, COSI Toledo will provide great music, an oversized sandbox, contests and plenty of other spring break favorites.

Carl Jara s 11-ton sand sculpture will be featured, and he will be on hand personally from April 8 through April 10 to offer tips for making sand castles. Visitors can also discover their sculpting skills and carve in their own sand pit filled with more than 2 tons of sand. A special sand area will be set up for the young sculptures as well. Eighteen tons of sand will be featured in the display.

The Science of Big Machines will be brought back this summer by popular demand. Children (and adults) can climb into the cab of a backhoe, operate a loader or watch an enormous crane or dump truck in action from June 13 through June 20.

This event is so big that it will spill outdoors into adjacent Festival Park with a barbecue on Father s Day. During the weeklong event, visitors will have the opportunity to interact with construction equipment operating engineers, actually maneuver some of the big machines and learn more about the simple machines that make the big machines possible.

A long list of other events will continue this exciting momentum through August. Some of those events include:

June 28-July 4 Make Rocket Science look like Child s Play!

July 5-11 Superhero Science in the Science Caf

July 12-18 What Makes a Curve Ball Curve?

July 17 Grand Slam Science

July 19-25 Harness the Power of a Tornado!

July 24-25 Special Art Performance in the Science Caf

July 26-August 1 Spinning Things

August 7-8 Safety Days

August 9-15 SuperCOOL Science

In addition to these fascinating events, COSI Toledo offers eight distinctly themed Learning Worlds for every age, with interactive exhibits that encourage multi-sensory exploration. In Discovery Hall, you can ride the High Wire Cycle and learn how gravity and counterbalances keep riders safely on two wheels.

In the Sports Section, guests will learn about the physiology and technology that drive our favorite games. In the Whiz Bang Engineering room, visitors can help COSI Toledo s in-house scientists design bridges, roller coasters, soda bottles and a robotic arm.

COSI Toledo is open Monday through Saturday, 10:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m., and Sunday, noon to 5:00 p.m. For more information, please call the Greater Toledo Convention and Visitors Bureau at 419-321-6404 or log onto www.doToledo.org.
