Northwest Ohio bankruptcy filings decline 2%

6/3/2010

Bankruptcy filings in northwest Ohio declined slightly in May, the second-straight month and third of the previous four months that local bankruptcy filings have fallen from the same month the previous year.

As they did in April, May filings for the 21 Ohio counties covered by the U.S. Bankruptcy Court in Toledo fell 2 percent from the same month a year ago, to 762 cases. The court also recorded a 2 percent drop in February.

Through the first four months of the year, bankruptcy filings are up 3 percent to 3,799 cases over last year. The reduced figures last month still were much higher than in the month of May during the three years prior to 2009.
