Toledo-area home sales decrease from 2009

With modest increases last month, the housing market in the greater Toledo area finished 2010 with fewer home sales than the year before but at a significantly higher average sales price.

The Toledo Board of Realtors Thursday said 6,217 houses were sold last year for an average price of $103,282 in Lucas, Wood, and eight other northwest Ohio counties. That compares with 6,578 sales for an average price of $93,037 in 2009. For Lucas County alone, there were 3,752 sales for an average price of $96,895 last year compared with 4,154 sales for an average price of $93,546 in 2009.

In December alone, the greater Toledo area had 498 sales, up from 485 a year earlier, for an average price of $108,246 compared with $102,521 a year earlier.

Sales of condominiums in the 10 counties essentially were flat last year from 2009, the board's report shows. They fell to 366 last year from 370 the year before, and the average sale price was $133,014 from $134,987 the year before.
