Toledo moves higher in foreclosure ranking

1/27/2011

Toledo ranked No. 54 among 206 metro areas nationwide last year in foreclosure-related filings, three spots higher than a year earlier, a new study shows.

The four-county area had 7,836 filings, or one for every 38 home loans, lower than the one for every 45 mortgages nationwide, according to a report released Thursday by RealtyTrac, a California data tracking firm. It counts default and auction notices as well as bank repossessions in its data.

In the 2009 study, when metro Toledo ranked No. 57, it had one filing for every 41 housing units. Lucas County government records show 3,869 foreclosures filed last year and 4,160 in 2009.

The RealtyTrac report shows the highest-ranking cities in foreclosure-related filings last year were in California, Florida, Nevada, and Arizona and an increase in filing activity in 149 of the 206 metro areas. In Toledo, the filings rose 6.5 percent last year from 2009 but were down 2 percent from 2008.
