Ohio home sales up 10% from July to August

COLUMBUS — A trade group’s report shows home sales rose nearly 10 percent in Ohio from July to August while the average selling price went down.

Ohio Association of Realtors President Meg Hudson says in a statement that the state’s housing market continues to work toward overcoming challenges seen since the onset of the recession in 2008.

The association said Wednesday that about 10,100 new and existing single-family homes sold in Ohio last month, up 9.9 percent from roughly 9,200 sales during July.

The trade group says the state’s average sale price fell in August to about $138,300, from roughly $140,900 the month before. That’s a 1.8 percent decline.

The National Association of Realtors says U.S. sales of existing homes rose 7.7 percent last month, driven by rising foreclosures.
