Oct. foreclosure filings in area increase faster than U.S. rate

Foreclosure-related filings in metro Toledo last month rose faster than the national pace.

Default notices, auctions, and bank repossessions were filed on 887 properties in October for the four-county area, up 27 percent from September but down 14 percent from a year ago, real-estate data tracking firm RealtyTrac Inc said. Nationally, such filings totaled 230,678 last month, up 7 percent from the previous month but down 31 percent from a year earlier, the report said.

The report shows filings for Lucas, Wood, Fulton, and Ottawa counties amounted to one for every 348 properties, compared to one for every 583 properties nationally.

Top states in foreclosure rates include Michigan, ranked fifth, with a filing for every 282 properties. It had 16,106 filings in October, up 14 percent from September. Ohio, ranked 14th, had one filing for every 586 properties, the report found. It had 8,691 filings, up 2 percent from the month before.
