BLADE STAFF

The Lucas County Treasurer’s Office has begun mailing real estate tax bills for the first half of 2012. Payment is due Jan. 31 and can be sent by mail or made in person.

Payments by mail must be postmarked by Jan. 31 to avoid a late penalty. Taxes can be paid in person at the Treasurer’s Office on the 5th floor of One Government Center or at local branches of Key Bank, Huntington Bank, Fifth Third Bank, First Federal Bank, State Bank and Trust, and Genoa Banking Center.

For payments made at local bank branches, taxpayers must bring their tax bills and pay in full. Additionally, the Treasurer’s Office recently installed a 24-hour tax payment drop box at the northwest corner of Erie and Jackson Streets, in front of the Safety Building.

Payments may be made with cash, personal check, certified check, or money order. Credit-card payments cannot be made by mail but will be accepted from those paying in person at the treasurer’s office.

Credit card and e-check payments may be made by phone through Federal Payments (1-877-690-3729) or the treasurer’s Web site, www.co.lucas.oh.us/treasurer. Questions may be directed to the office’s real estate department at 419-213-4305.
