At a recent meeting Sylvania Township trustees gave the final approval for the construction of new home development on McCord Road.

The trustees, approved 2 to 1 changing the zoning from single family to a planned unit development for the 1.4-acre parcel between Central and Sylvania avenues. The zoning change was previously approved by the township zoning commission.

The development plans calls for four duplexes. Mike White of Buckeye Real Estate Group said he plans to build the units and sell them for $170,000 to $190,000.

Several residents living on Monarch Drive near the proposed development objected to the plan. They said eight homes was a high density for the area. One resident asked the site plan to call for only six homes instead.

Trustees were also presented with about 29 signed statements from neighbors opposed to the project. Township officials said the density, although on the higher end, was within the recommended land use plan, and baby boomers and millennials were trending toward smaller dwellings within a higher density area.
