Red Wings fall to Hurricanes, 2-1

DETROIT - Riley Sheahan scored the Detroit Red Wings' lone goal in a 2-1 loss to Carolina tonight at Joe Louis Arena.

Elias Lindholm's power play goal at 8:15 of the first and Jiri Tlusty's goal with 1:36 left in the period gave the Hurricanes a 2-0 lead.

After a scoreless second period, Sheahan's power-play goal cut Carolina's lead to 2-1 at 3:43 of the third.

Jimmy Howard made 17 saves in goal for Detroit, and Cam Ward made 28 saves for Carolina.

The Red Wings are tied with Columbus for the seventh and eighth wild-card spots - each team has 91 points. Detroit closes the regular season Sunday at St. Louis. The playoffs are scheduled to begin April 13.
