Take A TARTA Bus!

     Toledo Area Regional Transit Authority — TARTA — has been the “Ride of Toledo” since 1971. TARTA serves the communities of Maumee, Ottawa Hills, Rossford, Spencer Township, Sylvania, Sylvania Township, Toledo, and Waterville.

     TARTA fare is $1 per person; 50 cents for persons with disabilities and for senior citizens age 65 and over. Children six years and under ride free with an adult, limit of two. TARTA tokens are sold in quantities of 25 for $22.50. Weekly and monthly passes are available for $10 and $40, respectively. Reduced-fare passes for persons with disabilities and senior citizens age 65 and over are available for $5 weekly and $20 monthly.

     TARPS is TARTA’s paratransit service and operates in compliance with the Americans with Disabilities Act. It covers the same service as TARTA. Since its February, 2012 opening, TARPS’ new headquarters and garage/maintenance facility bring all of its activities and leadership under one roof, improving communication and making its services more efficient by centrally locating the facility relative to TARTA’s service area.

     Demand for TARPS continues to grow significantly, with ridership reaching 269,770 in 2011 -- an increase of 23% from 2010. TARPS applications are available by calling 419-382-9901.

     TARTA offers a flexible schedule designed to transport riders in and around their community with Call-A-Ride. Available in Maumee, Ottawa Hills, Rossford, Spencer Township, Sylvania, Sylvania Township, and Waterville, Call-A-Ride fare is $1 per person; 50 cents for persons with disabilities and for seniors age 65 and over.

     TARTA’s Game Shuttles have Park-N-Ride service to downtown to all Mud Hens and Walleye home games. Fare for the Muddy and Walleye shuttles is just $1 each way and there’s no game ticket required to ride.

     All TARTA buses are equipped with lifts and ramps, making them 100% wheelchair-accessible. TARTA also recognizes the role of bicycles in riders’ multimodal trips and has bike racks mounted on the front of all of its buses. Each rack holds two bicycles (adult or child) independently. There is no charge to use the bus bicycle racks.

Recently, TARTA introduced a notification system for TARPS riders letting them know when their bus has arrived. Another innovation in development is a real-time passenger information system for fixed-line is scheduled for release later this year. The notifications can be sent as texts and accessed from home computers and smart phones; 72% of web traffic to TARTA.com is currently accessed from mobile devices.
