Ex-Soviet commander slated to preach in Maumee

8/7/2004

Gen. Vycheslav Borisov, a retired deputy chief commander in the Soviet Union who is now an ordained minister, will preach tomorrow night in Maumee.

Given the code name of "General War" as leader of 100,000 Soviet troops, General Borisov said his life was miraculously spared when his helicopter was hit by enemy fire and crashed in the Panjshere Mountains.

He turned his back on Communism, became an outspoken Christian, and was forced into early retirement.

General Borisov will speak at 6:30 p.m. tomorrow at Heritage Church of God, 3250 Strayer Rd., Maumee. Information: 419-861-9520.
