Father of Columbine victim to explain triumph from tragedy

4/30/2005

Darrell Scott, father of Rachel Scott, a 17-year-old student killed in the Columbine High School shootings of 1999, will speak at 6 tonight in the Monroe High School Gymnasium.

Mr. Scott's message will be about how his daughter's tragic death has been turned into triumph. Shortly before the attacks, she had written an essay that challenged students to be kind to one another and to reach out to those who may be hurting or being bullied, and said that if each student followed this pattern, "it could start a chain reaction."

Schools around the country, including five in the Monroe area, have taken up "Rachel's Challenge" to promote kindness. Mr. Scott's talk is sponsored by the Monroe Evangelical Association. Information: 734-241-1502 or 734-735-6777.
