Corpus Christi to honor parish s founding pastor

2/14/2009

Corpus Christi University Parish, 2955 Dorr St., will honor the ministry of its founding pastor, the Rev. Robert Kirtland, by dedicating a parish classroom in his honor on Feb. 21.

The dedication will follow the regularly scheduled Mass at 4:30 p.m. Dinner will be served around 6 p.m., followed by the unveiling of a portrait of Father Kirtland by Dianne Nyitray-Kaericher.

A Toledo native ordained as a priest in 1955, Father Kirtland was the University of Toledo s Catholic chaplain from 1970 to 1982 and was selected to establish a campus parish for UT students and faculty, which is now known as Corpus Christi.

Father Kirtland, who also wrote restaurant reviews and wine columns for The Blade, died of a stroke in February, 2008, at age 78.
