Monroe sister receives award from Vatican

MONROE Sister Sharon Holland of the Immaculate Heart of Mary religious order recently was awarded a papal medal at the Vatican.

Sister Sharon received the Pro Ecclesia et Pontifice ( For the Church and the Pontiff ) medal from Cardinal Franc Rode on June 26.

She retired at the end of June as bureau chief at the Congregation for Institutes of Consecrated Life and Societies of Apostolic Life, a job in which she responded to questions on governance from religious congregations around the world.

Sister Sharon described her Vatican tenure as a wonderful experience in terms of being exposed to the universal church.
