10/24/2009

Asra Nomani, author of Standing Alone in Mecca: An American Woman's Struggle for the Soul of Islam, will discuss and sign her book from 7 to 9 p.m. Thursday in the University of Toledo Law Center Auditorium.

Ms. Nomani is a graduate of West Virginia University and American University and a correspondent for the Wall Street Journal.

She made a pilgrimage to Mecca to rediscover her religion and upon returning to the United States was inspired to confront sexism and intolerance and to fight for the rights of modern Muslim women.

The lecture is free. A reception with refreshments will be held in the law school auditorium before the talk starting at 5:30 p.m.
